The LWG, or Leather Working Group, plays a crucial role in the global leather industry by establishing and promoting sustainable practices. The LWG certification is a testament to a company's commitment to environmental responsibility, social awareness, and ethical leather production. This certification ensures that leather products meet social and environmental standards for traceability, waste reduction, chemical management throughout the supply chain, among other topics. All JBS Couros facilities are LWG certified, and an ongoing dialogue is kept between the two institutions for leadership in all crucial sustainability topics in the leather supply chain.
The tool helps companies to measure, quantify and establish a roadmap for continuous improvement in facilities' sustainability KPIs. JBS Couros has been implementing the tool in different facilities to allow for faster and more accurate steps towards the continuous improvement of its processes.
We strongly believe that we can only build the future we want if we make assertive decisions with our limited resources. For this reason, we have implemented a Life Cycle Perspective culture, where we use quantifiable approaches to identify the sources of impact and conceive action plans as efficiently as possible. In this journey, we have completed +40 ISO 14040 compliant Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) on several different types of leather, allowing us to have a detailed vision on how to move forward.

Our hides are physically stamped and traceable back to the supplying farms and processing facilities through the JBS360 Leather ID. The stamp allows us to identify the hide’s origin. Openly available for anyone to use JBS360 it allows for greater transparency and connection within our supply chain.

By entering the code on the platform, it is possible to track the group of farms from which the raw materials originated, the processing unit and date, as well as the tannery that produced the leather.
