Kind Leather is the result of years of research and effort to develop authentically sustainable leather. By merging concepts such as sustainability, clean production and traceability they have built a new concept that aims to promote a more transparent value chain, from farm to end product. This innovation was designed to significantly minimize the environmental impact of the production process. Its philosophy is based on eco-efficiency: the unwanted parts are trimmed in the beginning of the process for the removal of undesired parts – while the offcuts can still be redirected as raw materials to other industries – thus minimizing the waste generation and the use of resources per square meter produced. By carrying forward only those parts of the leather that statistically tend to be used in the assembly stages, the whole process becomes much more sustainable.
The approach results in more efficient use of resources while substantially minimizing the amount of water, energy and chemicals used. Concurrently, it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, eutrophication potential, human toxicity and several other environmental impacts.
To ensure its benefits and provide routes for continuous improvement, the substantial environmental benefits of the approach have been evidenced per production stage by the conduction of Life Cycle Assessments and cutting yield calculations.
